EMT Madrid (Empresa Municipal de Transportes de Madrid S.A.) is the reference surface mobility operator in the city of Madrid. Created in 1947, it is a public company 100% owned by Madrid City Council.  

With 9.833 employees, EMT Madrid manages the bus transport service in the municipality of Madrid, being the only bus operator in the city, and the largest mobility company in Spain in its sector. Its fleet accounts for 2,090 buses (with 3,861 km network) and 10,574 bus stops with 220 bus lines across Madrid. The whole bus fleet is 100% clean according to the EU Clean Vehicles Directive (CNG and 100% electric, and shortly also H2).

EMT Madrid, which keeps research and innovation at the company’s core values, also manages 29 parking facilities, the tow truck service, the public e-bike sharing system “Bicimad” and the Casa de Campo cable car. EMT also has a Consultancy department that provides technical assistance to other transport operators around the world.

Yearly, the EMT’s buses travel more than 90 million kilometers and carry 372,9 million passengers (2022 figures), 365 days a year, and 24 hours a day, becoming a critical infrastructure of the urban ecosystem and therefore, playing an important role in the normal functioning of the city.

The company is at the forefront of Intelligent Transport Systems and Customer Information Systems use, as quality customer-oriented services, including safety and security, are a priority for EMT.
