Commitment to Sustainable Urban Mobility

In response to the rising trend of e-commerce and its consequent delivery demands, Prague initiated the City Logistics Study in 2019, which was officially approved in 2020. This comprehensive study addresses the myriad challenges associated with sustainable city logistics, with a particular focus on ‘last-mile’ delivery issues and the associated parking dilemmas of delivery vehicles.

The solutions proposed include enhancing freight transportation through the utilisation of municipal depots, promoting the use of cargo bikes, and innovating new parking solutions specifically tailored for delivery vehicles.

Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan (SUMP)

Adopted in 2019, Prague’s SUMP outlines an ambitious agenda with 242 specific measures aimed at reducing the city’s carbon footprint, enhancing traffic safety, and improving the accessibility and efficiency of public transport and urban freight distribution. The plan is strategically set to unfold its objectives by 2030, with city logistics being a significant area of focus. This involves optimizing the organization and movement of freight vehicles within the city to streamline operations and reduce congestion.

Collaboration and Leadership

As the local government and follower site leader of the UNCHAIN project, the City of Prague collaborates closely with its city districts, where responsibilities for urban logistics are shared. The city also partners with DPD, a leading international logistics company in Czechia, ensuring that solutions are robust, scalable, and aligned with industry standards.

Looking Ahead

Through UNCHAIN, Prague is set to transform its urban mobility landscape by integrating innovative technologies and sustainable practices. These efforts are not just about improving logistics but are also aimed at enhancing the quality of life for all Prague residents, making the city a model of modern, sustainable urban living.

What is their role in UNCHAIN?

In the UNCHAIN project, Follower Cities play a crucial role in the implementation and demonstration of solutions developed in the project. These cities, Prague, Mechelen, Riga, and Funchal, work alongside the primary demonstration sites of Madrid, Berlin, and Florence to maximize the geographical coverage and replicability of solutions across Europe.

Prague has decided to support the demonstration of many different UNCHAIN services:
